I want to cut right to the chase because this is for the election in Fairfield, Connecticut. There’s a lot going on… The town plan has to get rewritten, plus the charter, and the Code.
But I really want to talk about election integrity. And I know there’s a lot here, but we have to move really fast because here’s the bottom line: there are multiple databases. There’s the official voter’s log, which should be the one used for official town business. The registrar though, instead buys unclean lists from the post office. Then there are Democratic Town Committee rolls, which really shouldn’t be on the same computers as the Town files, unless maybe Republicans get the exact same privileges.
I went in (to the registrar’s office) to get the voter logs to communicate with everybody. I’m on the ballot for First Selectman. I asked, where is everything that I have to reach everybody? I was told I could try use the physical addresses in the large voter registry log in the hallway, that did not have emails or confirmed phone numbers. They emailed the file to me, but then we’re talking and they come to say that they don’t use the same databases. For some reason, they buy a mailing list to announce the election for the town. Though they didn’t do that when sending out a postcard for Jen Leeper and DTC, which went to non-DTC recipients as well. And it’s the same template as the charter revision postcard, which again is official town business. Really messy.
This is the state controlling on the local level. It flows through our registar’s office. It is also the source, as you saw with me, of the amatuer smear campaigns. But it starts here with the state. It’s like a golden domed octopus with 169 tentacles, one in every town.
One of the reasons I’m running is to give you the inside story. Another reason is because I wanted to fulfill a promise I made to Bill Gerber that I would get the town more involved and also to make change. The Voice is information but it’s also community engagement. It’s information plus getting involved.
Last year I ran in the 21st district for the state senate, which was Stratford, Shelton, Monroe, and Seymour. Again, just to get the inside story. And three years ago, I wrote multiple articles about Ganim’s gubernatorial campaign and his electoral run for mayor. And there’s a lot of malfeasance in there. They couldn’t account for $850,000 worth of money. When the post-race auditors came and asked about it, they were like, “No, we don’t have any of the money,” and SEEC replied, “Okay,” and left the “investigation” open for five years, until he was running for mayor again, and they quietly closed it.
I went and I traced all these documents. It’s a road map to a lot of the malfeasance that’s going on in the area. The point is that it all relates back to Fairfield. We are the child of Bridgeport.
It shows this lack of electoral integrity. Last year in the 21st district ,they allowed the Republican registrar in Stratford to meet behind the scenes in a private meeting with Mario Testa at his Testo’s Restaurant in Monroe. Testa is the poster child for Democratic malfeasance for the last 20 years. Now he’s playing the other side of the street with the Republicans.
A plague on both your houses. And before that, it was all this crazy stuff with Ganim, and the state lets it happen because they have to keep Bridgeport alive. Bridgeport delivers 100% Democratic. It’s the largest city in Connecticut, with 30-something members on the council, plus its projects. Now, it’s a lot of school projects, and it’s all tied in together with hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars, so they have to prop up Bridgeport like a Hollywood Set.
Understand that vested interests hate me, because I call them out. Reminds me of the all-time great jersey names.
In Connecticut, the Democrats have a 2 to 1 supermajority and they keep it, ruthlessly. I am a third candidate. I mess up all their plans. I am a harpoon going into the golden-domed octopus. This is all a product of the Democratic machine and the construction cabal up in upstate Connecticut affecting Fairfield.
They make it incredibly hard to be on the ballot. And then once I was on the ballot, they did not announce the candidacy. They suppressed it even from the town point of view. That’s why I went into the registrar’s office a second time - to ask if the town was even going to announce I was on the ballot (no), were there any resources for me (here’s the voter log, but we don’t use it), and can’t we draft something (wrote your bio behind your back and sent it to the newspapers yesterday, but I won’t mention that now)
Yet they promoted things from a Democratic point of view, manipulated the ballot, manipulated your information. They had debates without me. They issued a press release about me and wrote a bio about me, confusing people with who I was. First impressions are lasting impressions; sending out a blurb on me with ‘fence flag painter’ imprinted something about me on everyone that read it.
We need a coup. We need a revolution led by the RTM, who have been defenestrated by the state, to recreate our town government and make it a model for governance. This, not incidentally, was Bill Gerber’s written goal. He wanted our town goverment to be #1, the leader in CT.
I would like to be Fairfield County Executive and unite the 23 towns. If Tony Hwang added Alexis Harrison and Kathryn Braun to his administration, then he could win. We need him desperately in Hartford, for without him we have nobody, but since we really need to redo our town government anyway he could stay and lead that.
Christine Vitali should be head of a world-class special ed school in Bridgeport. She is the one to do that because she has the education and PTA experience. They’re dead last in the state in education in Bridgeport. They don’t even have a PTA. We should pay her a phat contract to run a new unified school in Bridgeport out of Bassick High School, which is closed, and they’re just going to let it rot so they can build new schools. They’re nothing wrong with Bassick or any of the other six schools they are closing. Meanwhile they spend a fortune on a new school in a flood zone in the south end. It’s a huge scam that exploits the children of Bridgeport. She is the only one I know would could lead that initiative.
It would leave things for the First Selectman. That’s where you need the RTM. There’s 40 people in the RTM. You don’t even know who they are. You can’t even reach them. It’s all because they redid everything starting in 2000. They created these districts. They got rid of Black Rock, for instance, just to create the Commerce Drive district, District Six. Remove Commerce Drive from your vocabulary. That’s the fix right there. And you look at the people that went through it. The woman who is now deputy Secretary of State was District Six. Rob Blanchard, District Six, is now director of communications for Governor Lamont. So they take these people, put them in that district, and then they give them great jobs on the state level. How could that be right? How could a guy be in the RTM and working for the governor at the same time? Who is he representing?
So, we need the RTM, the 40 of them, to have a revolution and redo the charter and the plan. It’s not that hard as you think. And the code to restore the neighborhoods of Fairfield.
I played them. I knew they were going to try to cut people out. I turned in almost 230 names, knowing they had the latitude to disqualify people subjectively - it’s messy on the sheet and you’re using different color ink or whatever. So, I waited till the last day and I turned in more. I turned in seven sheets originally with 230 names and I needed 179. I knew they were going to try to mess with me. I waited till the last day, at the last minute, half an hour before at the clerk’s office, and I filed another 25 names on a clean list that I knew was perfect. I had it laminated. I made it with nine over. I played them. Haha. Registar. So there you go. But they make every step incredibly hard. I remember once, I got a hold of the lawyer at SEEC, thinking I’d finally have an advocate, and got nothing but pushback from her. It’s supposed to be independent and encourage the public, but it’s not at all - the Elections Divison and SEEC is run by the Democrats, which is inside the Secretary of State’s office, which is an elected position, to boot. It makes no sense.
I get on the ballot. I go out. I get everybody to sign up. A lot of people, as soon as I say I’m a third-party candidate, they jump right in. They sign up. They’re like, “Hell yeah.” I talked to over a thousand people, so most didn’t sign. They wanted to support Tony or Christine. I get that. But I asked, “What’s on your mind? What do you want?” They said, “Get rid of the towers, taxes, and the traffic.” And we collected money for affordable homes. We collected $141, which I owe the town and I owe you. Each one of those is the starting price for an affordable home. And that solves our home problem.
So, I get back on the ballot. I finally go through. Oh, let me even go back before that. So, I find out it was hard to even find out how to get on the ballot. They don’t announce it online. They don’t say how it’s done. It’s really cumbersome. I have to go down to the town clerk’s office. Prove who I was… fair enough. Then I have to go up to Hartford in person and fill out more paperwork just to get the petition to go out and get people to sign up on the ballot.
I do all that. I turn it in to the town clerk’s office to get the petition forms. I stop by the registar as I’m leaving just to say, “Hey, am I on the ballot.” I go in and the registar starts yelling at me. He’s like, “You need to form a party with 24 of your friends.” I was like, “No, you don’t.” You know, this is an office full of people, no less. He’s always—you walk in and the counter is there and he’s sitting in his cubicle over there yelling—doesn’t get up and he’s giving me misinformation. I’m like, “That’s not true, actually. You just need signatures on the petition. I don’t have to form a party. I can be not affiliated.” And he’s like, “Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Call, blah, blah.” And he’s giving me a name of somebody to call up in the state. I’m like, “I’m not calling anybody.” Like I said, they help you in what to do, and in fact act as blockers. There’s incomplete info on the site. They make it hard.
I go out and get everybody to sign up. I get a call from Taffy at the State, who told me I qualified..” Two weeks later, I get an email and they only cc’d the town clerk saying, “Congratulations, you’re on the ballot.” I was like, “That’s it? I’ve been waiting for official confirmation. You don’t even tell me. You don’t tell the people.” I call them up and I’m ask, “Aren’t you going to tell everybody that I’m on the ballot, that I’m a third-party candidate?” And their response is, “Oh, no. That’s not our job.” Me: “Your job is to have a fair and open election.” Them:, “We leave that to the towns.” I said, “You leave what to the towns? To have a fair and open election?” Is there anything else, sir?”
They hold on to and slow-walk my official announcement in a special election where we have a collapsed time frame. Then they just quietly email it to me and cc the town clerk. And I asked the town clerk’a office, “Aren’t you going to make an announcement? Aren’t you going to tell people? and get the reply, “That’s the state law.” What does that mean, that state law tells you to soft pedal the info? You hear that all the time. They hide behind this line that it’s state law, statutory… to what, not tell your constituents who’s on the ballot?
I go into again the registar’s office asking how am I going to communicate with people now? I’m on the ballot. How are they going to know what’s going on? Aren’t you going to issue a press release on town letterhead saying that here are the three candidates on the ballot?” No. I’m like, “Well, what am I supposed to do?” “Well, here’s the voter log.” By the way, Republican party emailed it to me, which is important. And we start talking, and then the other person goes, one of the co-workers goes, “Oh, yeah, he does work on the side. He’s a Democrat.” He yells, “That’s not true.” He explodes. This is the registar of voters, and starts like yelling like a 12-year old. I couldn’t believe it. He did it a second time, when he didn’t like my probing on why he’s using dirty mailing lists, and he said “This conversation is over!” and put ear buds in. It was very disturbing - I was there to get answers, and this town employee acting like a petulant child won’t help, for obvious reasons.
Again, it’s obvious why he was so easy to trigger, and again in an office with co-workers. I ask a fairly benign question “Why aren’t you using your own voter registration list?” First, he starts telling me about how to buy a list from the post office. I’m in marketing; I’ve forgotten more about direct marketing than they’ll ever know.” Again: Why is the town buying a list from the post office for official business, yet giving me a different voter roll which is different, and then more lists, too.
The registrar is doing all this work for the Democrats on company time, mixing computers, phones, and promotional campaigns. And there’s the potential for a lot of shenanigans. Chicago used to Vote the Dead for decades (that’s how they delivered the presidency to JFK). Towns accept absentee ballots from people don’t live here anymore. This is a major deal that calls for many eyes on this election. We need closure here and can’t have it drag on. This town has been through too much pain and needs to come together.
The bio on me slandered me in a way. Because now you’re telling people that I’m a fence flag painter. It’s just like a hobby thing I do on the side, and I like it and everything, but I’m not an artist by trade. So, they have done this, and this is not the first time the town has talked about it, but it’s got to be the last of them sending out this stuff. Before me, there was an orchestrated smear campaign against Tony Hwang. There was stuff against David Becker, plus he lost his job, and Kathryn Braun has been libeled in the past. All GOP. And all those things come from these weird sources over nothingburgers. They manufacture the stuff and put it out there.
Even to this day, they won’t even mention me. I’m not invited to the debates. I’m not mentioned in the press releases. They refused to do a joint Get out the Vote PSA - name one politician in history that’s turned down the free good will and media attention encouraging people to be engaged.
They made a postcard and don’t even mention me or show the sample ballot with my name or likeness. I even filed a complaint about being on the bottom with the cryptic Petitioning Candidate label. I appealed to SEEC and said 1) It should be alphabetical and 2) don’t label me; just leave it blank. How about if I wrote A Donkee is an Ass for the Democratic party? They said, no, we are the majority party so we go on top. This is proven to tilt decisions in your favor, so right away they are giving themselves an edge.
SEEC is toothless. That’s the State Elections Enforcement Commission. They have open knowledge of malfeasance going on here with Ganim. They don’t care. They look the other way 100%.
They froze me out of the media, for crying out loud. And these are my brothers. I’m a journalist. There are no articles about me in the Connecticut Post. That’s all Hearst media. All the local papers. They froze me out of that. They froze me out of Patch. Everything. They control the media. That’s why The Voice is great, because it’s just the facts. I’m not controlled.
You have to understand what’s going on in the media world now. TikTok was just acquired by an American company, including Larry Ellison. It’s already censoring ICE and other things here in America. CBS, you see everything going on with that, and it’s the same thing: the influence from Larry Ellison and purchasers here in America over the company. ABC is owned by Disney. Fox is Fox. All these media outlets are controlled by other companies trying to make money, trying to figure it out. You’re being lied to. You’re being manipulated. That’s why Substack is great, because it’s real. It’s authentic.
We need a full audit of the registar’s files to ensure a proper election. I think it’s too late. I don’t know what we’re going to do.
This was a favorite. When I mentioned the inequity, the registrar - who again works for the town - says “That’s what you get for being a minority party.” I was like, “What is that? What do you mean that’s what I get?” I should expect to be discriminated against? What if I took out the word party? “That’s what you get for being a minority?” And that is the official response from town hall.
Oh, here’s a good one: Physically assaulted. Years ago, the head now of the Democratic Party in Fairfield... I was in the Democratic town committee offices on Unquowa Road a few years ago when everything was going on. One guy came and actually put his hands on me and spun me around and said, “Oh, nobody cares about Bridgeport,” and kind of pushed me towards the door. Now, he didn’t physically try to hurt me, but he put his hands on me and spun me around. I’m bigger than him. I put my arm around him and put him in a “friendly” headlock, like I was giving him a noogie. I kissed him on the top of his head, and I heard something crack. It was either his neck or his back or his head; I don’t know.
The threat of the districts. The first time I was there when he told me I had to form a party, we’re leaving. There’s a big map of the 10 manufactured gerrymander districts on the wall where they abandoned all the neighborhoods of Fairfield and put in the districts. And I said, “This is fake.” He screamed at me. “Don’t mess with my districts!” I take that as a threat, and take it seriously as a journalist. I have been on stories for far greater money than he realizes—the whole construction cabal, the schools, millions upon millions of dollars—not his penny-ante stuff. He’s just a paper pusher, saying that “these are my districts.” But the threat is very real. And there’s been a war going on for a long time. They don’t like me because I write the truth: that it’s a huge scam.
I’m not a minority party. I am unaffiliated. I am 100% for the people, for total reform, for the truth. It’s a whole new world. That’s why I say the revolution is brought to you by Google. That’s all I use, just the facts. And I’m part of the Google News Initiative. I was in a master training class with them last year where I was selected by myself with other major publications from around the world. That’s Google validating what I say. We have access to public records now like never before, literally for the first time in history. I can see PDFs with OCR, videos with transcripts, emails, and put it all together. It’s a whole new world, and I’m inside of it. I make the Mariana Trench look like a kiddie pool.
And how does that impact here in Fairfield? Here are the big three things. The plan is an easy fix. The vendor didn’t follow the directions from the state at all. We can say, “Look, this is horrible what you turned in. It’s all about buildings. You haven’t fulfilled the mandate of what’s required, and we’re going to revise it.” Which we can.
And last is the code. Like I said, you got to get rid of this stupid Commerce Drive district. It’s all done to manipulate you and control everything that’s going on. We need to restore to the actual neighborhoods of Fairfield, and that is through the RTM. We need a coup from the our elected neighborhood reps - who WANT to serve the public - to lead the revolution. They need to step up.
Your friend and neighbor,
Matthew Hallock
